Style Scoop—Sunny Finds to Brighten Your Week

This week’s Style Scoop is inspired by sunshine. I’m wintering in Southwest Florida, one of the few places in the USA that hasn’t been hit by freezing temps, and want to spread some warmth and cheer. Here’s a scrumptious snack, a snarky read, chic sneaks and some to-die-for Florida hot spots you can savor from afar. Brighter days are ahead, but in the meantime enjoy some rays with these treats from the tropics.

Eat

Don’t miss the season for Sumo Mandarins, in stores now through April. These big, lumpy citrus fruits with a distinctive top knot are yummy. They peel easily, are seedless and taste incredibly sweet and satisfying. Somehow they don’t get your hands all sticky either. Sumos are actually grown in California, not Florida, but I discovered them down here.

Read

Squeeze Me by Carl Hiaasen— Set post-pandemic with the Orange One still President and and spending lots of time at his resort in Florida, this political satire is a wickedly fun read. When a Palm Beach socialite disappears from a charity ball at the same time huge pythons are spotted around town, wildlife specialist Angie Armstrong gets involved in a messy intrigue with lots of political twists. I laughed so much reading this but I’m a little nervous about running into a python now! Hardback $16

Wear

Vionic Nana Sneakers in mustard

Vionic Sneakers are so comfortable, where’ve they been all my life? I bought my first ever pair in mustard, which I’m beginning to see all over the place since Pantone’s Color of the Year, Illuminating, is a similar summery shade. Find them at Dillards or Nordstrom. $120

Get Away

On Little Palm Island with Liam for my 40th. Key deer swam up to our table on the beach.

I celebrated my 40th birthday at the luxurious hideaway Little Palm Island Resort and Spa in the Florida Keys. It’s was damaged by a hurricane and has been completely restored since then so now I feel like I’m due for a trip back. Everything about the resort is so tranquil and pampering, from the private boat ride to the island to the gorgeous natural setting, gracious bungalows and amazing cuisine. Also, it’s adults only and very secluded, so social distancing is a given. Named one of the top 50 resorts in the world in 2020 by Conde Nast, this place is definitely expensive. But a couple days spent at Little Palm Island will make memories for a lifetime. Or bask in the beauty of their website for a virtual vacay.

Admire

Finally, check out tennis superstar Serena Williams’ amazing waterfront home in Architectural Digest. Designed by her sister Venus’s design firm, V Starr, the Miami area home is insanely chic but also super fun. I’m in LOVE with the karaoke room.

Note: At this point, Style Challengers isn’t sponsored by any of the companies mentioned above. We’re Just sharing what we love.
