Style Scoop—Little Luxuries to Give as Gifts or Keep for Yourself

It was my birthday last week, along with several of my girlfriends, so there’s been a lot of exchanging of girly gifts. If you’re in search of a present or just need a pick-me-up for yourself, here are a few nifty, not too expensive items I’m really enjoying.

Simon Doonan’s new book, How to Be Yourself—Life Changing Advice From a Reckless Contrarian. I savored this quick, decadent read like a chocolate eclair. Doonan, the former Creative Director of the now defunct Barneys, believes in cultivating your personality, intellect and style in real life, not on the internet. His how-to advice is refreshing, witty and actually inspiring, especially if you’ve been longing for permission to be unabashedly yourself. Phaidon, $13

Personalized Gift Enclosure Cards. This is a thoughtful gift that keeps on giving. It won’t be long until we’re dining at friends’ homes again, and these mini notes are perfect to tuck into a hostess gift or attach to a bottle of wine. Thanks, Tricia, for making me look classy! Similar styles available at Etsy.com. $23

Corkcicle Wine Tumbler. This hot pink insulated wine glass was given to me last year (thanks Berit) and I’ve loved using it. It’s a cool way to take a drink to a BYOB backyard gathering or on a stroll around the neighborhood. Great for coffee too. $27

Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne. My friend Lisa smells delicious. After I complimented her on her fragrance, she sent me a bottle of my own. That’s a good friend! The fresh and earthy scent is yummy and not overpowering. $72

Brighton Viper Flip Flops. I couldn’t resist ordering these sandals after seeing them on a stylish new Florida friend. The snake print and subtle bling make them way swankier than your average flip-flops. $54

Athleta Supersonic Run Belt. These days we’re dying to get outside. I bought two of these practical slim belt bags—one to keep and one to gift. It securely holds keys, credit card and even your phone, so you can move fast and free without fussing with your stuff. $29
